BIRMINGHAM, AL- We are pleased to announce Wulf Koch as the new Head Coach for the Birmingham Hammers. He joins us from a long tenure with Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks. Koch has posted a
120-68-17 overall record with AUM, an overall collegiate record of 231-171-28 as a men’s coach, and has added 71 wins as a women’s coach. He has a career winning percentage of .573 and led nine teams to the NAIA National Tournament.
Koch will assume his role immediately. When asked what his first plans are he stated, “The first thing I will do is to fill out our staff and then get right after assembling our squad.” He added, “Alabama has great college teams, NCAA D1, D2, and NAIA programs which carry elite players. We want to make sure that we look at all programs. Ultimately, we want to assemble a group that fits our philosophy of how to play the game and can win. I have connections from Maine to California, we will make sure not to leave any stone unturned to find players.”
“The NPSL is a huge league, the country is well covered with quality teams everywhere, coached by awesome coaches. We want to put the Hammers on the map,” said Koch. He added his new role will be both “challenging and exciting.”
President/GM, Morgan Copes had this to say about the new Head Coach, "We are really looking forward to working with Wulf. He's been a proven winner everywhere he has coached and has had a tenure of over 4 years at nearly every university he has coached at. He has over 230 wins in his career with multiple trips to national tournaments, conference championships and teams consistently ranked in the NAIA Top 10. We really think that he is going to help our team increase our level of play and get to the playoffs this year."
